Bicycle accident lawyer and bicycle cargo trailer driver Matt O’Donnell has had enough.
In a video posted to YouTube on Thursday, O’Brien says he’s lost a friend’s bicycle after a collision with a truck in West Sacramento.
“I was driving down this street when I saw a tractor coming at me and I heard a noise,” he said.
“So I looked down and I saw the tire was spinning.”
O’Connor says he was driving his friend’s bike and the truck hit it.
“This is a truck that is a tractor trailer.
It hit the tire,” O’Connell said.
He says his friend was killed instantly and the trailer’s driver fled the scene.
O’Leary has posted several videos online in recent days.
The first video shows the truck driver who hit the victim and fled the area.
“A truck hit me, hit my friend and I’m not sure if it’s going to be ok,” OLeary says.
“We’re not sure.
There’s a lot of stuff going on.”
Ola Baca, a bike safety advocate and former U.S. Marine, says O’McDonnell’s video is “just a very sad story.”
“I think this kind of video really highlights that it is a very difficult situation for the bicyclist,” Baca said.
The video has garnered over 1.5 million views.
Baca says OMcDonnell and his friends have the right to be injured.
“It’s really hard to get an insurance company to cover something like that,” she said.
Boca says OLeary is the victim of a “sickening crime.”
“We need to get this right and he has a right to defend himself,” Boca said.
OMcConnell was charged with felony hit and run.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office says Ollys charges are still under review.
